Minorities in Syria At Great Risk

I posted in April about the difficulties that the Christians, Jews, Alawites, Druze, and Kurds are having in Syria. Since I last posted the situation has become more grave. It was reported by the New York Times that the Russian Orthodox Church is strongly supporting the Christians who are mostly Orthodox in Syria. They have put strong pressure on President Putin and  Prime Minister Medvedev to support the Syria regime because that regime has historically been supportive of religious minorities. The Russian Orthodox Church is cognizant that many of the so-called rebels are also Sunni and anti-Christian, Jew, Alawite, Druze and Kurd. They march demanding death to the Alawites.

Now the Alawites have been massacred by the Shia and the Sunni at least three times in their history. They believe with good reason that when Alawite President Bashar is gone there will be a bloodbath and they will suffer genocide. The Israeli foreign ministry report the Daily Alert also agrees with that assessment. In fact, Sunni terrorists previously operating in Iraq, members of Al-Qaeda in Iraq, have begun to return to Syria and they have a history of massacreing their religious enemies.

The United States, Europe, Saudi Arabia, and China have not offered any solutions to protect religious and ethnic minorities. Until they do, this conflict must not end. The edited and one-sided presentation of American and European press stories must be answered by presenting the other side of this conflict.
